Age of differences

Photo: Mosaic for John Lennon

Heard last week: "We live in a era of differences. Nobody is equal to anybody and human beings must learn how to deal with it".

Actually it is about a strong belief of mine, but put in the correct words. We must learn to accept and live with our differences. That's the only way society can survive, otherwise life will become a battle ground and human beings will kill each other.

The happenings in Oslo, Norway last week in which an ultra right-wing Catholic Nationalist named Anders Behring Breivik exploded a bomb on government buildings, later heading towards an island full of young people attending a traditional local political gathering opening fire and killing more than 90 people is a clear example of people not knowing how to deal with differences.

The 32-year-old gunman — with his blond hair, green eyes and a six-foot build — is a Nordic ideal, and for at least nine years, he meticulously crafted his plan to root out anyone different. Breivik's rambling writings, grandly titled 2083: A European Declaration of Independence, is fueled by a combined hatred of Muslims, Marxists and multiculturalists. His beliefs recall neo-Nazi politics that continue to linger throughout Europe, but freshened with a new, 21st century toxicity.

You can read the full manifesto here:

He puts together Marxism, Fascism, Immigration of Muslims (Islamisation) as the source of all evil and preaches a coming  back to a society where traditional values like religion, obedience to ones parents, sex as a way to procreate, etc must be restored. Naturally Aryan supremacy comes on hand with all this bullshit. Needless to say he condemns homosexualism.

Let alone all great conspiracy theories perpetrated by governments, society, Muslims and some others obscure organizations.

On his own words:
"... The ideology that has taken over Western Europe goes most commonly by the name of "Political Correctness."
Some people see it as a joke. It is not. It is deadly serious. It seeks to alter virtually all the rules, formal and informal, that govern relations among people and institutions. It wants to change behavior, thought, even the words we use..."

What is really scary is that this guy, despite of all his madness, is a highly educated person whose capacity of organization and strength of purpose is astonishing. His writings and actions inevitably may have a strong impact on others.

Have lived 11 years in a very close connection with Europe. Have made great friends there and noticed something unique. Due to years of Economic recession, high unemployment rates, on the eve of an Euro meltdown, Europe and most importantly European identity and mindset are changing. Instinctively everybody there is searching for someone to blame on its own failure.

Naturally the first choice falls onto Immigrants who are more and more seem as an invader, someone who is there to still jobs and become a burden on social costs. Muslims, Jews, Africans, Latinos, Chineses, etc have all been targets of several of attacks on the past years. Violence and hate grow.

Am not saying that every European is open or supportive of these events, but the simple idea that their own standard of living is getting worse and worse because either Immigration policies or cause of the money that richer Europeans nations like Germany, France, England have to bailout his poorer peers have its toll.

Again, I've made great friends over there but also have worked with them. Have seen their Aryan superiority. Sorry, but a great number of them do believe they are superior and they do treat everyone coming from another place as inferior. I worked with people who could not accept that my idea could be better than theirs.

Anyway, am only saying that Anders Behring Breivik is a typical European product on its core ideals and Viking heritage. Naturally he is also mad enough to carry on with his plans but there is a fertile ground for such ideas to grow.

Who's to blame? What humankind should do?

We have to learn how to deal with differences of whatever kind: being racial, sexual, beliefs, etc. Governments policies, Religious institutions must stop spreading hate, otherwise we are all doomed.

Prejudice Free & Justice for all

Was reading an article recently about a research conducted by the University of Yale telling that our beliefs and prejudices  shape people's reaction to pleasure and pain.
According to this study, pleasure is guided by what we know or think we know about the object or person with whom we interact.

Don't you think this is a huge limitation to human beings?
If you have a prejudice against Asians, Negros, etc it means that you could have a great sex with them, but because of your prejudice you would not enjoy it... I mean you could miss great things in your life cause of a stupid prejudice.

Isn't it a kind of contradictory conclusion?
Let's take an example of adultery, to which most of Religions are against... It means that someone whose belief tells it is wrong to go for adultery shouldn't feel pleasure on it right?! Well, actually if that is right the study is wrong... and it wouldn't be so many divorces around!

On the other hand if your beliefs and prejudices are against same sex practices it means you will automatically react badly when faced with such situations...

The issue is complex but we cannot deny everybody is a result of all the inputs received in their lives and when it comes to religious beliefs at certain point in time everybody will cross some of its boundaries and maybe find out that the devil is not that bad after all.

When it comes to prejudices I really believe this is a huge limitation in our lives and only brings bad consequences making human beings to private themselves of great opportunities and achievements. Prejudice leads always to anger and violence and its consequences could be devastating for society. That's why it is important to have laws to protect anyone, mostly minorities and make use of them to curb abuses.

Living a Prejudice free life is a huge difficulty once our prejudices lie mostly on our Religious beliefs and in this sense neither churches, synagogues, mosques do anything positive. They incite prejudices and violence.

Which society can afford having its minorities of any kind being attached by Beliefs and Prejudices?!
